ART OF  MOLTEN GLASS

Stained Glass Art – Molten (Hot) Glass
– Fusing & Slumping -

This workshop introduces students to the Art of Molten Glass through Glass Fusing and Slumping. Glass Fusing involves the creative combination of Colours, Textures & Forms with skilful manipulation of Glass in Molten form to create Artistic, wondrous Fused Glass Pieces. Fused Glass will be slump to take the form of Plates, Trays, Bowls, Platters, Jewellery, limited only by the Artist’s imagination.

 

Fusing & Slumping generally requires 2 or more separate firings, one to fuse the glass and a second, to slump it to shape. The Beauty of Fused Glass lies in its uniqueness --- No Two Pieces are alike --- a direct result of hand-work and kiln-firing.

 

Students will be taught the Fusing Process, Fusible glass properties & Firing Charts, leading formulation of a Firing Schedule.

ART OF MOLTEN GLASS

– Fritography -

Fritography, the painterly use of crushed glass frits and powders, has opened up a whole new world of artistic imagery. Anything is possible when working with small particles of glass from a tight, photo‐realism to loose impressionism.

 

Students will learn how to control color density, shading, soft and hard edge lines and some unique specialty looks. We’ll focus on creating unusual shapes, surface treatments, firing schedules and mural making techniques.

Students will work to create their own fused glass cabochons, which can be purposed to various jewellery forms through the application of the appropriate findings.
